Pay the fine and SLOW DOWN, easiest way to avoid getting a speeding ticket.

Yes, get a lawyer, and don't speed anymore. You were so lucky to only get a warning the first time. Apparently it didn't work.

That's pretty rude. You don't know the OP or their situation. There's no reason for you to post something like that. For all you know they could be a single parent, going to school, working two jobs to support themselves, and just getting by.

And in all those cases, they should not be going 15+ over the speed limit if they don't want to deal with the hassle and money of a speeding ticket. I kind of have to agree that if you can't afford the ticket, you should be making sure not to commit the infraction. That's why I make sure to always set my cruise control to a speed the officers will ignore me

But as they say, ***** happens. I'm pretty sure belittling, scolding, and embarrassing the OP isnt why they came here. They needed some advice on what to do with the ticket.

Everyone speeds at some point either intentional or by accident. But the board goody two shoes always has to scold, correct or embarrass the person. Maybe if you have nothing constructive to answer the OP's questions just don't post.

The OP is in the process of learning from their mistakes. Thats life. Thats how we learn. I know for me, I never learn by someone else whining...I learn by going through things and coming out the other side. Being judgmental and all high and mighty just makes you look petty, and like a real back end of a donkey.

Go to court early and talk to the DA. He may reduce it for you. A lawyer pretty much does the same thing. If the Prayer for Judgement is the only option, use it. Just be careful afterwards.
I once had 2 PFJ's at the same time for the same thing. I never got charged for them. But my insurance looks at them like the original ticket. So my rates went way up for 3 years....

If you honestly cannot afford a lawyer and you cannot get a loan from your parents for a lawyer, you can try going and asking the clerk for a reduction (since it's your first offense). You can also tell the clerk that you want to use your prayer for judgment.

I cannot guarantee that either of these will work for going 51 in a 35, but if there's literally NO way you can get a lawyer, you don't really have an option.

I made a valid point. I hear this all the time "I can't afford insurance". Driving isn't a right, it's a privilege. And it's an expensive one. 14% of the cars on the road in NC are not insured.

The OP asked for suggestions and advice, and got a varied mix. Much of it valid, with "hire a lawyer, talk to the DA, and slow down". Didn't happen twice within two years by accident. I'm just assuming from the "I can't afford a lawyer because I can't even afford to pay the ticket" comment, they are looking for a cheap way out. There is none. Driving is an expensive privilege. I also feel like they waited VERY late in the game to be asking for advice, with a court date just a few days away. You've got at least a month to plan ahead, ask for advice, and save up the cost of court/fines.

Just went to Wake County District court this morning:

My Ticket: 83 mph over 65 mph zone, 18 mph over speed limit.

My court experience was more than pleasant:
Time wise it took me 29 minutes in total, from entering to leaving the parking garage. Moneywise $203 fine + court cost + $1.00 parking. The ADA was super friendly. She kindly declined to see my clean driving record or hear my excuses and gave me the "9 over" reduction right away.

Bottom line: no need for lawyer. Worst scenario when ADA refuse to give you reduction, ask for a continuation and hire a lawyer then.

The Judge will offer you to go to or offer online driving class that will not go on your record or affect your insurane.
