Thought I'd start this thread - admittedly I'm not a great fan of Brier Creek and avoid a lot of chains when I can.

But turning a negative into a positive - last week I discovered Flame Kabob, right smack in Brier Creek - and had an absolutely terrific meal. It's Persian, tiny family restaurant, absolutely delicious food including the free hot tea. Oh, the chicken kabob. Oh, the homemade bread.

I wanted to give it a plug and see if there are any other gems around that area that people know of? I haven't been there in a while.

I know I always post about food

Azitra is a pretty good Indian spot - a little on the pricey side, but very delicious!

You know I really didn't like Azrita when I ate there a few years ago - I felt like all of the flavor was watered down for some reason. It felt like the Olive Garden of Indian food to me. But I think there's another around that area that I've heard is good - Zayka? May be spelling that wrong, will look it up.

I've never felt Azitra had watered down food- always had good experiences. They did switch their chefs about a year ago though so it may not be the same now.

Brier Creek is basically one big chain restaurant.

Only two I can recommend are Trali and Tazu down near the chic-fil-a. Both are excellent.

For a excellent American/Cantonese take out joint, try China Kitchen (near the Food City on TW Alexander). I am an admitted Chinese food snob, and the standard Cantonese dishes this place regularly sends out is terrific. I've tried some of the Hunan stuff and can't say I'm as impressed.

We also liked Flame Kabob, thought it's really casual. The food deserves a nicer place. (Note: it's difficult to find)

Aladdin's Eatery is a small chain, but doesn't feel or cook like a chain. Very large servings of high quality, well prepared food.

We've enjoyed Tazu on Sunday nights to get the always available BOGO sushi and half price bottles of wine. It's not sensational sushi, but it's okay. We'd go more often if they had some specials on non-sushi appetizers for those that are not sushi fans like DH.

Champa Thai and Sushi provided a nice lunch recently, and we intend to go back.

We had mixed feelings about San Gennaros during our two visits. The servings were enormous, enough for a second dinner from takeout. We felt almost embarrass to be sitting in front of that plate of food. Service was trying hard and friendly, but clearly untrained and not very professional. Nice atmosphere, reasonable prices (cheap considering the amount of food), and the food was sometimes very good, sometimes only okay. But definitely try this place if you have a big appetite.

We have no desire to return to Trali, La Cocina (I've had better Weight Watchers frozen Mexican entrees), Carolina Ale House, Pei Wei, Great China (so dirty I didn't even order anything).

On the meh list, Brixx, Hibachi 101, Greek Fiesta, Moe's Southwest, and Randy's Pizza.

This area is severely lacking a good mexican spot. Mediocre at best.

I second Trali and Tasu. The revamped Louie and Charlie's (used to be Kemp's Seafood) at Hwy 70 and Page Road Extension has good, filling burgers and fries, but service was a little scattered. We've only tried it once, though.

Is this the place in the shopping center next to Food Lion on TW Alexander? I can't remember the name of it, but if so we recently discovered it and have had good experiences the few times we've gone there. Much better than Los Tres Ma....whatever.

I went once and had a beer and have been meaning to get back to try a meal. They had a great beer selection and the space is great. Was it busy when you went?
