Anything that breaks on a 17 year old system is gonna mean it needs to be replaced pretty much. Not worth putting any money into something so old. I would let it run till it breaks. I really don't see the value of putting money into a service contract, what is there to service? Other than cleaning it, which I do myself. Just don't ignore issue like it running constantly and it should be ok until it breaks.

One other thing to remember - new systems are much more efficient than 17 year old ones. Also consider those cost savings in calculating when to replace.

Bumping this thread up in hopes of getting updated information on annual cost for general routine HVAC maintenance - cleaning and checking 2 units. Thanks.

Not sure but I think Weather Master charges $240 per year total for two inspections. We have two units.

Matson/maximum mechanical also charges 240/year and we have 2 units being cleaned and serviced in the Spring and Fall. I am very happy with this company and highly recommend them. They installed our first floor HVAC/Gas pack.

Not to rain on your parade, but Weather Master doesn't have the best reputation and is probably one of the worst companies to use. Do some research on this forum but in the meantime...buyer beware.

Twice a year is not really necessary but does provide a nice revenue stream for the HVAC company. Annual inspection and cleaning is typically enough.
