There's a place next to Bruegger's Bagels in Cary on Maynard near Kildaire. They changed the sign, but when it originally opened it was this shady looking storefront covered in a white curtain, white christmas lights around a sign that was hand done that said "chinese massage". Now it says something like Yucca Foot Massage or something, but the first thing I thought of was the "rub and tug" lol.
ahahaha yes my husband and I say the same thing every time we drive by it.
Finally made it to 35 Chinese in Cary this weekend - now hands down my favorite Chinese restaurant. It was unreal. So of the authentic Sichuan restaurants I've tried it goes:
35 Chinese > Happy China > Gourmet Kingdom > Super Wok
But Super Wok only comes in last because they have a small dining area and I often pop into places for lunch solo - feel intrusive doing that there. The food is terrific.
The first time, I was blown away, and singing the praises, the second time, it didn't do as much for me. I think a tie-breaker is in order (but I've also been hearing a LOT about Gourmet Kingdom, so that is probably my next place to visit).
I need to add C & T Wok Restaurant in Morrisville. GREAT authentic food. I found out about the place from a physician I work with who is Taiwanese. She and her family live in North Raleigh, eat there often as do her parents who live in Chapel Hill. The restaurant also has both American and Chinese menus. The place is small; last time I was there we were the only non-Asians....proof it's good!
I'm a Chinese. Let me tell you what authentic Chinese restaurants are.
1st level: C&T, 35, Gourmet Kingdom, Taipei cafe
2nd: Super wok, Shanghai, Dim Sum House, Taipei 101
3rd: Super Asia Buffet, Hibachi Buffet, Pearl on Avent Ferry
...
Thanks Mike! Taipei Cafe is next on my list. I think I went to C&T years ago and can't remember what I thought of it - that's after Taipei.
Then the rest.
Yum.
