This is not true.

It's an aptitude test. It was designed to help determine which students are more likely to be successful in college.

It's not surprising that more students in CH and Western Wake got higher scores on the SAT because there are a higher percentage of households in that area that are headed by people with college degrees (and advanced college degrees, at that).

Doesn't mean there aren't brilliant, capable kids elsewhere who scored very well on the SAT. This is an average, so it's representative of the population in general.

Not sure if you were asking where it's physically located or where it is on the list. On the list, it's under Needham Broughton - 1588.

No offense meant to OP, but I think the really fascinating observation here is that the posted data seems to have been immediately accepted as fact by all without a link to the source of data having been posted (or even a mention as to source).

Not saying the numbers are false at all, it just worries me that nobody cares to review the source of the data.

What would add even more value is the percentage of students who took the test. When I have some time I will add that in. Just quickly glancing at it, it seems that many of the high-scoring schools had the highest percentages of students taking the test.

For example, 91.5% of students took the test at Green Hope in Wake which had an overall score of 1717. Compare that to Clayton High in Johnston where only 60.8% of students take the test with an overall score of 1489.

It was in the N&O today also. NC SAT scores rise as fewer take the exam | Education | NewsObserver.com with a link to this database that the N&O put together.

It would be interesting to also know the free & reduced lunch (socioeconomic status) of the schools as well as the percentage of students who took the test. CHCCS schools have a significantly higher f&rl rate than Green Hope last I checked (something like 7% for Green Hope to about 25% for CHCCS high schools).

The state only has the excel spreadsheet up now for download, but they say that they will have the info up in other formats soon. NC Public Schools Accountability Services

I was surprised to see Athens so high on the list. This is the high school for our feeder pattern, and up until now, I was strongly considering getting our kids on the feeder pattern to Middle Creek instead.
