This is my first Thanksgiving in the area and I have a couple of questions. How busy do the grocery stores get the last couple of days before Thanksgiving? Any suggestions on where in Cary to find a turkey breast (boneless or bone-in) that is not frozen? Thanks

This will be my first Thanksgiving here as well, so I can't offer much insider knowledge, but in the past I've had good luck picking up SMALL non-frozen turkey breasts at Trader Joe's.

You can expect the grocery stores to be pretty busy the days leading up to Turkey day. Increasingly so the closer you get. It's nothing silly, just busy... Pretty much like other places I have lived.

As someone whose husband doesn't get off work until 4pm on Tgiving because of last minute shoppers, please do your shopping the day before . He says his store is crazy busy the day before... so maybe even the day before that!

Last year I ordered a fresh turkey from Whole Foods, and picked it up the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. They had a very organized, quick process, and it didn't take long at all. I'll be doing the same this year.

You can order it online, or it the store.

I don't go anywhere near the grocery store the day before Thanksgiving. Tuesday isn't so bad, but Wednesday is a nightmare. The best day ever to go grocery shopping is Black Friday.

I also avoid grocery stores on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. In NY and NJ, that day in a grocery store feels like Black Friday in a mall, that is why I was checking!

I think it's pretty bad here, too. I'd avoid it if possible.

Agreed ... I've done the last minute run to Fresh Market at 4pm the Wednesday before and it is absolute chaos. You take your number for the meat and there are maybe 60-70 people ahead of you. But hey all part of the fun

You can order a fresh turkey breast from The Meat House in Cary on Kildaire. I order one every year for Christmas and it's fantastic!

I've never had their turkey breast but their maple and bourbon marinated steak tips on the grill on the BEST!
