We are considering relocating from Texas to the Raleigh area. We need to be within about an hours drive to the Raleigh airport, so we don't have to live there. We want a small town, quant feel, with a good & decent sized (600-1000 kids total)Christian based private school for my 2 girls. We definitely won't do a cookie cutter home. We love homes with character and charm, woodwork, etc, and acreage (1-10 acres) with lots of trees, would be ideal, but close enough to a town so we can still meet friends, playdates, etc., looking to spend no more than $550k. I know this is a tall order, but does anyone have any ideas on what towns around Raleigh we should focus on? Thanks!

$550k should definitely be sufficent to get just about all (if not all) of what you're looking for. You may want to post this in the Triangle sub-forum. I can't recommend specific areas that meet your criteria, but others in that subforum will likely have some suggestions.

Any specific reason you've chosen Raleigh? I like the Triangle, but I prefer the Triad area for a somewhat smaller-town feel but still having plenty of shopping and entertainment options.

Thanks I'll try that. My husband needs access to a major airport since he travels extensively for his job, and although he doesn't need an office necessarily on a daily basis, his company has an office in Raleigh.

The area around Charlotte might work for you, too, if you just need access to an airport. CLT is a bigger airport and he might get more direct flights from there. Lots of small suburban towns around Charlotte, too.

You might want to take a look at http://www.carolinaparent.com/direct...tion/index.php or http://www.charlotteparent.com/direc...tion/index.php for private school listings. They do a pretty good job of breaking down private school options.

You might like the towns of Pittsboro or Hillsborough for their quaint, small-town feel. However, I have trouble locating a Christian school as large as 600-1000 students. Could you go for a smaller school in the right town?

For example, these are the private schools near Hillsborough: http://www.privateschoolreview.com/c...35#!elementary

These are the private schools near Pittsboro: http://www.privateschoolreview.com/c...C/county/37037

There are larger schools in Cary, but Cary is the size of a city, not a small town: http://www.privateschoolreview.com/t...NC/townid/4279

You're right. CLT is on the west side of Charlotte. The OP could look at the towns west of Charlotte from Belmont to Kings Mountain. Gaston Christian is the largest religious school that serves the area.

I think the Trinity School of Durham might work for you. It has over 500 students in K-12. It is west of Durham, so you could live Northwest of the school in the rural area going towards Hillsborough, and you husband would still have under an hour drive to RDU airport.

I don't have personal experience with the school, but it had good reviews in the thread I referenced previously and also on Greatschools.org .
