Hi there. I have been taking lessons in ballroom - tango, rhumba, salsa, mambo, west coast and east coast swing, shag, foxtrot waltz, etc. I am especially interested in finding out if there are groups or places that feature a night of ballroom and latin dancing in the Raleigh or Johnston County area.

Every two weeks our studio has a dance from 8pm - 10pm. (In fact if anyone is interested there is one tonight and its at All About Ballroom in Garner, highway 42W.) but I would like to experience a bigger setting once in while or the weeks when we don'thave class. I have seen some places like Tangophilia.com that promote dances like this but I am looking for a mixed variety of dancing not just tango and a good setting that is not totally clubbed out with drunks and stuff. There are a few dance halls here in Johnston County but they cater to a different crowd and different types of dance-more country.

Please let me know if there are other places as well where I can dance away if you do know.

Thanks!

Emilie

I don't know of any that have a mix on the same evening, but for swing dance check out the dances sponsored by the Triangle Swing Dance Society TSDS - Triangle Swing Dance Society - Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, North Carolina . There also are swing and salsa dances in Raleigh at the Elks Club, details usually at www.musicanddance.com, though their site is giving me errors right now.

I was also going to recommend the Triangle Swing Dance Society. I've been to dances at the Durham Armory and they are a lot of fun. There is usually a great mix of people. I've seen all ages represented there, from teens through the elderly. A very wholesome crowd. The live bands they hire are usually good. There isn't any alcohol served so drunks are rare.
