My husband and I are considering renting a home in the Hope Valley Farms neighborhood in Durham. Can anyone tell me a little more about the neighborhood? My primary concern is safety as we have a young daughter. The agent representing the property said the area is great, but he also has incentive to tell us that. It looks like a very nice area but when I looked at the crime report on Trulia I saw 6 crimes in the general vicinity of the home. Any information that anyone is willing to share is greatly appreciated!
Hope Valley Farms is a very safe & popular area in Durham. Homes in this area sell quickly. It is extremely family friendly...you'll frequently see people out walking, running, playing, etc. I have lived there for 1.5 years and never once have I had a safety concern.
Lives there for a couple years. There were some break-ins in our area (northern section), and next door had a break in before we moved in. I chased a suspicious young kid out of my driveway one night. He just took off as soon as he saw me.
I don't want to scare you, just use common sense. Is is a nice area but it isn't crime free. They do have a security car patrol but I'm not sure how effective that is.
My sister has lived there for about 10 years and enjoys it. Doesn't seem to feel that crime in the area is excessively high.
