Anyone who reads his books knows he grew up in Raleigh and writes about it. Very entertaining and relatable. He captures the time when Raleigh really started changing to the city it is now. He is a product of the early IBM transfers from NY . If anyone is not familiar with his work , read it. I think he is awesome . Transplants think adjusting is hard now, what about going to school here when they first integrated or being a large Greek family of northerners in Olde Raleigh. I could go on and on.. oh and he also has a famous sister. Love Amy Sedaris(Strangers with candy) too.
I love David Sedaris! I saw him read from his books at a Borders in Philadelphia years ago and his sister Amy was there too but no one really recognized her (she wasn't as famous then). I used to give out "Me Talk Pretty One Day" for gifts because it's one of my favorite all time comedy books. I was excited to see that he was from that area when I looked up NC celebrities recently.
I know but probably can't go this time. I did see him at the Quail Corner book store couple years ago. I want to so bad but $$ is a little tight . I listen to NPR but have not attended his performances. I see his brothers hardwood business vans off Six Forks alot. Glad you posted to notify anyone who didn't know. I was just thinking about how much he writes about the area and how I can picture all the places. He is a little older then me but I feel like he captures Raleigh transforming from a small southern town to the city it is today.
Enjoy his work. His Santa Land Diaries are hysterical and in production throughout the country. If you get a chance see it at the Theatre in the Park here in Raleigh.
His story about how his dad would eat anything cheap or rotting is side splitting. I actually laughed out loud so hard that my body hurt from it.
