Hi! Our family is relocating to North Carolina and might be relocating to Chapel Hill. All of the schools in Chapel Hill look amazing! Does anyone with experience with this school system have any recommendations for middle schools with a good orchestra program? My son plays violin. Thanks! Kim

From what I've seen....I'd say it's a safe bet that all 4 middle schools have solid music programs. I know it's anecdotal; but I'd say I've noticed a disproportionately higher number of students from Smith Middle school play instruments at school. Including orchestra/string instruments.

I think they're all good. I have known kids who did orchestra or band at Smith and Phillips. Know a lot of kids at McDougle, too, just not sure any of them are in the orchestra.

Just saw this video posted on CHCCS facebook page of a snippet of the Phillips Middle School Orchestra performing with Banda Magda:

I have had two kids in Smith's orchestra. Having attended city-wide performances, Smith, Phillips, and McDougle all have large orchestras. Culbreth's was much smaller. We have been very happy with Smith MS.
