I know...I responded in the way I did because the poster is a realtor...so it qualifies as misleading and not just an opinion (I think...)

We all luv our areas we chose to live in. And it is very understandeable for some to get upset when somebody does not agree that area is nice too. But we have to remember what the TOS rules are and post our opinions using that as our guideline.
From the TOS: Our opinions on a location or issue are just that, opinions. Highly subjective. Personal preferences. Quirks, even. Leave wiggle room for dialogue, others may not see things the same as you, or been there as long as you, and any one of us can be wrong. Pouncing on someone you disagree with runs contrary to the spirit of this board and its members. We are here to help each other.
Be civil, no personal attacks, flaming, or insults. We may attack ideas (politely) but we do not attack the speaker of the idea. Be careful with your words, there is a point where being direct crosses a line into blunt, in-your-face hostility. Please, report bad posts instead of engaging in flame wars on the boards.
If you disagree with something, say so, but explain WHY
And this is a suggestion for us all :
Maybe instead, we can ask members, why they have posted what we may disagree with. This enables the dialog to stay open and keeps it civil .
Unless we have something that says otherwise about real estate agents , please lets be civil towards them too.
I have never met anyone that has liked Durham...if you can afford it move to Chapel hill or somewhere further out...Durham is a rough area sorry to say.
That's a bit of sweeping generalization. I live in Durham and the whole city is not a "rough area". Like any city of its size, there are rough areas but this label is not appropriate for the whole city.
I suggest you look at the Durham City Police crime mapper to become more informed.
I think my posts are lightening rods for problems here for some reason.
So, has anyone actually been to Farthing Street who might give me a feel for that particular area. I'm totally comfortable with Durham as a whole. I used to live there. I just don't know that particular street (near Northgate Park).
You'll be fine, Gary. The house doesn't look bad at all. It's very close to the less-nice house next door, though. And by the way, the Roxboro commercial district between Club and Murray that I referenced earlier isn't even as "commercial" as I thought. Once you pass Club heading north, there's probably a quarter-mile stretch of residential before it gets commercial again.
Thanks for the info Jonny94. We've signed the lease (month to month) and are waiting for our keys to arrive in the mail. We start driving on March 5th! I'm excited to be coming back to Durham and the Triangle at large. It's been 9 years!
