For those having a hard time waiting for our Wegmans, they announced grand opening dates for the two Richmond stores that will be the closest to us for the time being. Short Pump store opens May 22, and Midlothian store opens August 7.

That's about 30 minutes closer now so that's nice.

LOL!

Like it won't be ridiculously crowded. You plop down a Wegman's in a town full of NE transplants and it's gonna be lined up out the door like a ride at Disney.

We are from the northeast and never heard of them, until on this forum. They must not have moved into MA, when we were there or maybe they were over in Bawston.

They just hit Massachusetts within the past five years I think. I think there's 3 now?

Correct...Northborough, Mass store was their first in New England. Opened in late 2011.

They currently have four stores in MA, with two more announced.

So are they adding a distribution center closer to the Triangle/Southeast?

It seems like that would be useful at some point. Maybe up in Va so they can do Richmond, NoVa and NC out of it. I assume they only have one up north now.

They have two - Rochester, NY and Pottsville, PA.

This is actually why I'm REALLY surprised that they're even considering the Triangle. I figured they wouldn't go any further south than Richmond, especially since there's a pretty far distance between Richmond and the Triangle with no other communities large enough to support a Wegman's.
