I've bought from "sons of guns" in apex before. The guy was rude and elitist BUT he had what I wanted in stock and gave me the best price locally. Took about 10 mins in and out so probably worth the rude attitude.
But yet there are like a few gun shops in FV that seem to have a pretty good stock of hand guns.
I was a first time buyer about a year ago. Bought my CZ from Fuquay G&G and had a great experience. Sales guy took a lot of time and showed me every option available for my desired caliber, explaining the differences in trigger feel, grip feel, etc. I will not hesitate to buy my next grun from them. I followed that up with a beginners handgun class at the Wake County firearms training center in Apex. Another great experience.
If you shoot without the laser, it's all about the front sight. Focus on it when aiming and it will make the learning curve disappear quickly.
I have done FFL transfers at two local dealers, most recently Fuquay G&G. I recommend them, but the process is in general very easy. Its no different than buying it from the store from a paperwork perspective. Basically, the dealer has to log it in as in-stock and then they transfer it off their books to you.
I would have no reservations buying online and transferring it in to wherever you want. I would be surprised if Fuquay couldn't get it for you without going that route.
Make sure you are satisfied with the L-O-N-G and hard tigger (double action only) on the S & W Bodyguard 380. I'm sure it is designed that way, so it will not accidentally discharge in the pocket. I own one, and it is my only complaint on that weapon. If you can get a 6" group at 15 yards you are doing great! (It is designed for protection, no other)
