Thanks for responses...not sure yet of the grade and how much height will be in crawl space. Looks like tankless option is around $2,000. Would prefer not to have in garage with space issues and NC law makes builder put in a pole or other barrier to prevent damage from cars.

Default Water Heater Update

New house with crawl space ended up being high enough to install a 50 G.
water heater so we are doing this vs. in the garage.
Coming here from Indiana so was wondering if people here would
add some type of insulation blanket around the unit ?

Adding a thermal blanket will not gain you the savings it would up north. These blankets may void the warranty (check) and are often improperly installed where they block the temperature/pressure relief valve operation.

Is the crawlspace conditioned?

A friend just told me that his crawlspace flooded due to Matthew and he lost both his water pump and hot water heater. I vote for the garage.
