to all the people who dont know i live in metro detroit and work for the city of detroit and they pay 100% for u ur family and spouse minus a few co-pays depending on which carrier u choose u get dental- optical- mental health infertility treatments - etc 100 % depeding on ur carrier which u choose from a list of 8

pension is covered 100 % by the city but u can put money in an annuit fund which they match up to 8% and this is like bonus money most people who retire after 25 or 30years usually have over 250,000 in the bank so u get this money and a pension

i am shocked that if i worked for the state i would have to pay for my own retirement and 400 or more to cover a dependent

thats crazy to me and i will have to rethink this moving to railegh thing

As I've said, it's nice but not Heaven.

State employees have decent benefits but the legislature is tight.

My son & daughter both work for the state.

I think that many of the people who post negatively about newcomers think that we are all naive and believe that the triangle truly is "heaven" on earth. I, however, do not expect the area to be perfect and in many ways not even better than Michigan. One of those areas is pay....I make more money in michigan. However, that isnt extremely important to me and there are many things that I appreciate about North Carolina. Its beautiful and I am a person who appreciates that type of thing, especially taking advantage of outdoorsy kinds of activities. There's a lot more to life than money and career. Perhaps some of us who are moving are not so stupid
