i plan on attending a couple lottery draws in march (of schools i applied my son to), and i am curious as to what goes on. who draws the names? and what do they put the names into? i picture folded up pieces of paper in a big hat (ha), but certainly it must more professional than that, right?

Honestly I thought the "lottery" for WCPSS is computer generated rsoftware and some of the other ones for Chater schools are also done by computer randomization, but by an organization independent from the school.
I had no idea you could even attend one.

I was thinking the same thing. I can't imagine that this day and age a district would trust the old pull a name out of a hat thing. I can see the news stories now on WRAL from angeried parents whose names weren't pulled out.

I have gone to the one at Raleigh Charter High School a few times - if I remember correctly they actually pull names and read it out loud. They will pull all the names and once the class is filled, the remainder are put on a waiting list in the order their name was pulled.

We are at Exploris charter and the lottery is done with a computer (and I'm 99% sure WCPSS uses this system as well) . They hire an independent, objective group to perform the lottery so there is no cheating. Somewhere I thought I read this was a state law.
