I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes for security at RDU but have never traveled during peak peak holiday periods.

I haven't noticed the lines getting worse during the latest TSA debacle.

RDU really is an amazingly easy airport - I love it. Zero stress.

Last August I arrived super late for a flight on a Monday morning; it was the longest line I had ever seen at RDU (it was backed up almost to the entrance into the queue area). My flight was literally boarding when I got on the line and somehow I still made the flight.

I fly 12-20 times each year and have never been on the security line longer than 15 minutes since they renovated the terminals. I consider RDU to be on my list of the best things about living in the Triangle.

I've only had it happen a couple of times that I waited 40-45 minutes and both were during business travel very early in the AM.

The 15 minute line is generally the kind I encounter most, too. I fly about half as often as you do now, but used to fly more a few years ago.

Terminal 1 was worse than Terminal 2 is now.

Don't forget to add time if you're checking a bag. Those lines always seem longer than security, which never takes very long (As far as airports go, RDU really is quite good).

Worth noting that if you are traveling outside the U.S., your airline may have a minimum check-in time that is longer than for a domestic flight. For example, American requires 60 minutes for international, measured when you actually get to the front of the check-in queue. And they do enforce it.

Just went to Seattle out of RDU a few weeks ago. Late in the afternoon and had only a 15 minute wait. The return from Seattle was about 20-25 minutes at 6 AM.

I'm wondering what the TSA lines are looking like today. I'm dropping someone off at the airport today for an early afterroon flight. Anyone got the info?
