Anyone have this dental coverage plan through their employer? My husband's employer just announced that they are switching their dental plan to this. Of course, our dentist is not in-network. And it will involve filling out forms and such. Ugh, so frustrated. Anyway, wondering if anyone has been using this plan and is happy with it? Payments are timely? Forms are easy to fill out? Any really good dentists in-network with Ameritas in Chapel Hill or Durham? Don't plan to switch, but good to know as a backup.

Thanks!

We have had Ameritas for years. I don't believe our dentist is in network, nor is my kid's. But both of the offices file the paperwork for us. In the case of the adult dentist, we pay the full amount upfront and then we are reimbursed by the insurance for a small bit about 2 weeks later. In the case of the kids, the dentist gets the money straight from Ameritas and then they bill us for the difference. Have had Ameritas for many years and never had an issue, except we have the more basic plan, and we don't get a whole lot of money from them. I think it barely pays to have it.

Thanks for the input. I haven't even looked what the cost is yet, but as a family of 5, dental insurance generally makes sense for us. Hopefully the costs will be similar to what we were paying.

I've also had Ameritas for years with no issues. My wife and I see Dr. Jim Pyle on Broad St. in Durham, and he's in-network. His office handles all of the claims seamlessly.

Thanks for the input. And I'm glad to have a recommendation in case we need one.

If you do not use an in-network provider, the payment from many insurance plans is so pitiful you'd be better not taking the plan.
