Nor do I like the new "eagle" that seems to be everywhere these days....and, what is the new "eagle"? It's those giant Texas stars that seem to be in every "Rooms to Go" living room and bedroom.

Well, that area was developed in the early 1970s...how quickly we forget the Bicentennial in 1976 and the whole "neo-Colonial" decor that preceded it! You're lucky there's no red/white/blue left!
(/Recalls childhood bedroom decorated in red & blue with bedspread and curtains that had eagles and minutemen on them...)
Francois- Most of North Hills, Lakemont, Chesnut Hills, North Glen and Quail Hollow were built out by 1969. I think that Hickory Hills was finished before 1970. Plenty of homes in North Hills proper were built in 1964 or before. I grew up in the 09. Rode my bike to Effie Green and Carroll. Remember the woods across from Carroll nicknamed Lazy? Or when Lakemont froze over many times? Moonlight Madness? The petting zoo at north hills? 6th grade centers? the deli king? hackney's. park's place? ryan's jr shoe world? the old library in the mall? oxford sporting goods at colony shopping center? etc etc etc etc

Edit: so on further inspection i see http://www.eichlerforsale.com/fremont-modern (broken link) which indicates 650k for the home by san fran... if i thought i could have a house like that there (instead of the crap houses here for the same price, in cold MA) i'd be on the next plane out there. =( i just hope raleigh can come close

A colleague of mine has one in San Jose that's pretty original and literally everthing in it is junk. The walls are flimsy, the doors are cheap, the kitchen is tiny, there's no insulation, etc....
But, the cool factor weighs in when someone really wants an Eichler. If you have the money to renovate and improve, there's no beating them!

I love them too for their design. And, the ones that make it to magazines tend to be well cared for and highly renovated and improved. I was just saying that one should not be enticed by a "low" priced Eichler for sale because it probably means that it needs a lot of work to bring it to its full potential.
