It's a non-union state, that's for sure. Which is a plus and a minus.

I am an Executive Assistant generally supporting C-Level Execs. I've checked the usual job boards and salaries vary but overall pay a lot less than what I make here. I'm thinking that's probably ok because the cost of living in NC is little less than in CT.

That depends on whether you are a homeowner or an apartment dweller. If you are selling a house for a tidy profit and pay high property taxes, you will see a difference. If you live in an apartment, you will see a difference but it won't be as great (you'll also notice the apartment options are much nicer here).

I would say it depends somewhat on where in CT, if SW CT it could be an enormous difference even if apartments.

My wife and I moved from CT about 1.5 years ago. We moved from a new apartment in an OK suburb of New Haven in a somewhat sketchy area, to a gorgeous one in the heart of downtown Durham with more amenities and that is very safe. Our rent went down by 25%. If we moved even 10 minutes outside downtown that could have been more like 40-50%. Closer to NY, the difference could be even greater. It could certainly be even more with a house, but that is still an enormous chunk of money. We are on the market now and never would have been able yet in CT.

Our salaries actually went up, though we are in wildly different fields than the OP. Either way, I recommend the move wholeheartedly.
