Another quiet area is West Cary....10 minutes from the Ellis Rd location. We lived in Chancery Village by the Park for 5 months while waiting for our house to be built. It is on Highway 55 in West Cary, close to Rt 540. Great location. New shopping center, Parkside Town Commons 1/4 mile away. Our apartment was very nice with nice amenities.

Just a thought.

I wouldn't call that a High crime area. I'd say that area is generally pretty safe. A little bit (1-3 miles) to the west and it would be a different story, but you're basically on the edge of RTP.

I just visited their website. $1,475 for a 2 bedroom WOW! I remember when I rented in Cary 7+ years ago we were seeing $800 for two bedroom apts. I think that area is fine on Ellis and the apts are brand new. You won't find brand new too much. If you work in RTP 147 to 40 is real convenient. Also easy to get to downtown Durham and Chapel Hill.

Especially for that location, closer in to town and that price would be defensible.

Which one, Chancery Village in Cary or the new one on Ellis Rd?

Thanks everyone for your replies and helpful information/suggestions, they are very much appreciated! With regards to the apartment prices, I won't need a 2 bedroom; but, I think they are expecting single family homes, townhomes and a new shopping center with a Lowes Foods, etc. to be built in close proximity to the apartments. Maybe that is driving the prices? Not sure. The comment about it being a generally safe area but not 1-3 miles to the west makes me a little nervous, to be honest. I guess that I will continue to look around; but, the fact that they are brand new construction is appealing.

Best,
Hope

My wife & I lived in that townhouse community (Taylor Estates) from 2006 through 2011, then rented out my unit until I had to kick out some unruly tenants and decided to sell it after making repairs last year.

For the most part, that area was nice and quiet. My unit backed up to the New Haven apartment complex, so there was some occasional noise from over there. We moved out when we needed more room for our expanding family, plus we wanted to get back into Wake County for schools. The housing market had dropped out when we moved, which is the only reason why we became landlords for a while instead of selling.

As someone else mentioned, there was nothing within walking distance and the only things really close by were all the fast food joints at Miami & US70. Everything else was about a 10-15 minute drive away (Brier Creek, Southpoint, Downtown Durham).
