Our landscaper took this pic this morning after he put some mulch down near our front porch. It's not a great pic, but can anyone tell if this is a Copperhead? It was in the low 30's when he encountered it. And babies are rarely alone...

ERMAGAHD!!! SNAKES!!! (sorry, couldn't resist)

Highly doubt its a copperhead. The head is shaped wrong. If i had to guess from that picture I would say smooth earth snake, simply because of where/how he found it. They mostly eat worms and other soft bugs. It looks to be about the size of the adults (9 inches or so.)

Baby copperheads have a yellow tail tip. Can't be missed.

Don't snakes sunbathe on stone to help warm themselves up? Little guy probably just wanted to get a tan.

Not a copperhead. Not by a longshot.

I would know, I found a baby one in my garage a few weeks ago.

Earth snake (as best I can tell from the picture). They don't bite...actually quite useful.....nothing to be concerned about.

What the others said. Harmless cute little snake.

Here's a baby copperhead - it has the same markings as adults but with the yellow tail tip.

That one should get your attention! Everyone should learn to identify!

Agreed, and easy to identify. Proper identification of a copperhead should be included on the NC written driver's license test
