The Cary Parkway store has been undergoing quite a few changes since the acquisition by Apollo Global Management earlier this year. I'm assuming it's because Apollo wants to maximize it's investment. Interestingly enough, Apollo was an early investor in Sprout's Farmers Market, but sold off it's stock in 2011.
Anyhow, it will be interesting to see what other changes are made. This week they just about doubled the aisle space so I'm assuming they will be carrying a great variety of products. The bulk food section (a personal favorite of mine) is much smaller. I like some of the new healthier prepared salads they added a few months back. So far, so good!

What I heard is that the store will pack in a bunch of assorted items that customers may purchase for convenience.
Hope it doesn't take away from the store by reducing space for exclusive items and replacing it with high profit crap.
I agree! Today when I was in I did notice some "name brand" laundry detergent in one aisle, which seemed odd. Well, only time will tell what the end result will be - hopefully they won't continue to take away the products I used to buy there (like dark chocolate pretzels which are no longer available in the bulk section ).
Not that a grocery store is going to survive on the few random vegan-friendly items I'd buy there every week!
I hope The Fresh Market does not abandon its position as a specialty gourmet grocery store. Its fresh foods, meat departments, and quality products keeps it in business.
The Fresh Market will also provide everyday items such as baby, pet and household cleaning products and food such as prepared salads, entreees and wraps.
In total, the store will add 4,000 new items, including health and wellness products, in its 22,264-square-foot building, Anicetti said. Store employees are reducing the space for items such as bulk food, bulk coffee, bulk candy and bulk wines to accommodate the additional products.
The bulk food offerings have been reduced drastically - maybe they will still sell some of the items in packages. The ale nuts were good!
What weird changes. The Durham one replaced a much lower-priced Food Lion, and there's both a Harris Teeter and a Target within walking distance. Nobody's going to Fresh Market for dish soap.
