My mother's will designated money to each of her son's "heirs". As my brother and I are still alive the money could have ended up in escrow since 1976, earning nothing. You don't have heirs until you're dead.
My father's will designated most of his money to go to a trust for his wife and daughter. The wife predeceased him and he never changed the will and never actually put assets into a trust.
As the commercial says, "If someone says you don't need a lawyer, you need a lawyer." Preferably and estate planning specialist.

I really appreciate all of the responses, thank you all. The initial quote for a package was well above the one posted here. I checked into the 2 attorneys suggested here, unfortunately they are not in the network from my company's assistance program so I can't use them. I will continue to look. If I can get a package for $1200 I will be happy with that.

When you say your company's assistance program? You mean like a Hyatt legal plan etc?
