I just moved to Raleigh about a week ago from Miami, Florida. The pollen has my allergies going insane and I can’t see an allergist until my new insurance kicks in, a month from now. I’ve heard local honey can help, has anybody had real success with this? I haven’t found much in the way of success stories. If you’ve moved here and successfully treated your allergies... via local honey or tons of meds or a particular doctor, I would love to hear from you. I haven’t breathed through my nose for a week and I’m worried about my toddler as well, he has a milder version.

What works for one person won't work for another, so you'll get many different recommendations from many people.

Flonase works for me.

I’m happy to try anything and everything at this point. I have had allergies my whole life and NOTHING is working so I’m looking for some creative solutions.

I developed an allergy to oak tree pollen after moving here. Regular OTC anti-histamine meds work great for me (Zirtec, Claritin, etc). If you've already tried anti histamines and didn't work, maybe it's not seasonal allergies you are experiencing? Like sick-house-syndrome or something? I'm not a doctor, and seeking medical help from random strangers over internet could be risky. It sucks that you can't see a doctor for a month. It might help to consult your company's HR. Maybe you can pay out of pocket but get reimbursed after the insurance is in effect?
Oh and I thought eating local honey thing is a long-term remedy. I don't think it's meant for immediate relief.

the State Farmer's Market off Lake Wheeler Road. Any of the Saturday/weekday farmer's markets, be they downtown Raleigh on Wednesdays (may not have started yet), Durham, etc. Maybe Whole Foods or more likely Weaver Street Market (Chapel Hill/Carrboro) carry local honey all the time.

OP didn't ask where to buy local honey, he/she asked if anyone had had tried eating local honey for allergies and a report on whether or not it worked.

Won't hurt. Might as well try it. It'll taste good at the very least and support some local beekeepers.

You should be taking a combination of things like flonase plus an antihistimine either zyrtec, allegra, or claritin. The allergy doc is probably going to have you do this anyway since allergy shots take a while to kick in.

you are quite correct. I use Claritin/generic for my mild spring allergies. As others have said, consuming local honey might be effective, on a slower basis than chemicals. I'd expect the same would hold true in any locale on the globe.

I tried the honey years ago when I first heard about. I didn't see improvement. I get relief with over the counter products...Flonase, saline nasal flushes with the netti pot.
