This. You want someone to bring a grill and cook the food you provide....I don't see that happening....and yes, the person should be insured, and their insurance probably doesn't cover them if they don't cook food they bring and handle. (And yes, you can buy insurance for ANY eventuality).

I'm sure this is quite do-able if you want to hire someone to cater the whole thing including bringing the grill. My niece's mother-in-law's catering company does just that (they are in NY unfortunately!)

I think Myghost meant that he used to cater grilled events, and no longer does, though he does it voluntarily for the events hosted by the company he works for now

I think what I will do is rent a large grill, buy a large cooler, get the meat ourselves and ask a friend to grill. Can we be liable if someone gets sick off the meat? (small chance, but thought I'd ask)

The men will gravitate to the grill and a few of them will take over. Trust me. Get a hold of a grill, place the cooler of drinks nearby and you will be set.

Yes. If you serve food to a guest and it made them sick and caused serious injury or death, and it can be proven you should have reasonably known that you were doing something that could cause the injury or death, then you could be held liable. And if you provide alcohol and one of your guests drinks too much and kills or hurts someone driving home you could be liable for that too.
