Maybe stay home and watch "Fargo" over and over.

Yup.

All less than 10 minutes driving within Duluth which really has no traffic and no sprawl (population of Duluth has not changed for 30 years and I want that to continue, so nobody move there please, lol). Also no snakes or venomous stuff to worry about, in 35 years in Duluth I never once saw a snake or poisonous spider in spite of being all over in the woods (if they are there they stay away, but honestly it is just too cold in winter for that, also too cold for roaches lol-- seriously, never ever saw a roach):

So, I really like Minneapolis and I know it is not Northern Minnesota. Could you tell me what time of the year the pictures are from? Minnesota is a land of thousand lakes, but we have some lakes here too - lakes that you can enjoy every single day of the week. Do you like Beer? This area has some amazing breweries. I could go on and on, but, I won't for your post insinuates Apex as a boring ol' city which it surely isn't. 20 minutes, isn't that how long it takes for you to even turn on your car in the Minnesota Winter?

Unfortunately, you're expecting Apex to be something it's never tried to be. Your lifestyle isn't suited for family friendly suburbia.

You mentioned the symphony a couple times ... you've missed out on the NC Symphony season at Koka Booth Amphitheater, but you may want to check out what other events they have scheduled for the rest of the summer/fall. Movies by Moonlight, various concerts, Oktoberfest, a Dragon Boat Festival, Theatre Raleigh's Rocky Horror Show ... you might find a few things you'd find interesting and it's pretty close to Apex.

20 minutes to warm up car.... yup, and then some in winter, lol

Minneapolis has some beautiful lakes, just too much sprawl and traffic for *me* (although there are some really nice neighborhoods in the twin cities where i could live if i had too, but i prefer a smaller area, perhaps a smaller outlying city) but so many nice parks and lakes all over the city, voted most romantic city in usa at one time i think. Mnpls has winter mostly dec through march, so 4 months. Duluth has winter nov through april and sometimes into may so 6 months winter which means half the year is winter and wow that does stink i admit, hence my trying out NC. I decided the social network and friends in Duluth is worth it for me to return there, as the best house best city in the world is lonely if one does not have one's friends and social network to share time and events with; and i decided i can pay for snow removal services, and shell out cash for a couple of long winter vacations to break up winters; this weird, but Duluth and MN in general gets a couple weeks each winter of -30 sometimes -35 temperatures and it is almost mystical, indeed painful, in that sort of cold, but it is so cold it is almost weird to live through it (hot coffee turns to ice crystals when you toss a cup up into the air, a banana freezes so hard it can function as a hammer, the car seat feels like concrete, etc., and i have brought in the car battery on such nights if only parked on the street)

You know , Apex has been voted the best place to live in some magazine. Maybe read that article over and over again till you get it.

It's only a year, so really the 20 minute or so drive to get where you want should be the least of your worries - you can handle anything for a year. The weather will get better soon. Just hang in there and take some of the advice on places to visit here.

Every place is different so you can never replicate what you love especially two places as different as MN and NC. If you're a MN guy nothing can change that and don't worry about NC not being your place. But be open minded to what you can do.

Not slamming Apex, but if I was looking for a real hot time, that's not the first place I'd move around here.
Exactly this. You moved to a little suburban town and then seem surprised that you are out in a suburbia? No, it doesn't have the amenities of a Raleigh or Durham, but you didn't move to Raleigh or Durham.
