I will be in the area looking at homes. I few things that I'm not a fan of island cooktops, built-ins and cutouts for the TV. Who does that? Can someone give me a general estimate on cost to relocate an island cooktop?

Plenty of people.

Way too many factors to even give a ballpark. Primarily are you talking gas or electric? Slab, or basement/crawlspace? What materials to replace the countertop? Will you have to replace all the countertops?

Royal James wasn't far off, though I'd increase the high end by a few thousand.

Consider also the exhaust hood and fan above the cooktop. Repositioning that could be complicated and require modification of the kitchen ceiling.

.

I like to browse real estate in my spare time for fun. (aka Zillow). Seems you're better off just finding a home that already has the configuration you are looking for.

That's my feeling as well - unless maybe I was going to rip out the entire kitchen.

It's an absolute deal breaker for me. I don't want people sitting around my island when I'm cooking; it's doomed to lead to a medical injury for guests or DH.

Good point! And I agree. I don't see the attraction of cooking in the middle of the room.
