FINALLY, I have decided on what to give adult children and their significant others and not go into debt giving them things they don't want. They still might not want any of this stuff, but at least I don't go into debt. They live in small apartments in NYC and LA and don't need or want STUFF.
Everyone gets:
A book I think they will enjoy that I bought used (but looks new) from ReTails, a thrift shop in Raleigh that benefits low-cost spay/neuter programs.
Their favorite candy.
A thick pair of socks from Dollar Tree.
Lip balm, such as the Burt's Bees brand.
For my adult children, a small framed family photo taken when they were children. The frames are from thrift shops.
Everyone also gets a screaming monkey slingshot toy to play with on Christmas -- it's a cheap toy that makes a loud noise when you use it...and makes people laugh, which is the most important thing.

The total ends up at about $20 a piece.
Great idea! I am baffled how many people think they have to spend big for Christmas. Some of the same people who proclaim “Jesus is the reason for the season.”
We give to various charities and people we know who need extra help at the holidays in lieu of presents to friends and family, with the exception of younger grandchildren.

The old standby---fragrance gift sets! Lots of times you can find deals if you buy something, you get something free. Give the freebie to someone else or keep it for yourself---they'll never know!
