Mid-town would be nice, somewhere close to North Hills, St. Mary's area.

About 8 years ago, as an investment DH and I came close to purchasing 2 small (1000 sf) ranch homes, both on one large lot, right on W Chatham St. Oh, how we regret not doing it....lol.

We are where we want to be. We have a Zebulon address, but we are in Franklin County right over the Wake County line, neighbors have Rolesville, Youngsville and Zebulon addresses out here.

We lived smack dab in the middle of "Midtown" which used to be called North Raleigh for 18 years. I am glad to be away from all that traffic and noise. It takes 15-20 minutes for us to get to pretty much anything we want, store-wise. We're 30 minutes from the center of "Midtown", which is close enough for me.

I guess I'd be Mike's neighbor as I'd say:

1. Cameron Park
2. Downtown Cary

Not sure what Olde Raleigh is

We live in Chapel Hill for the schools and bearable commute to my husband's job in Burlington.

Does the “no restrictions “ include budget? If so, there’s various Inside The Beltline in Raleigh areas I’d probably look at first. Cameron Park, Hayes Barton, Historic Oakwood, and vicinity. For me, I’d be happy in a nice condo building, too (wife needs a yard), and something like The Bloomsbury Estates might be interesting.

Being more budget conscious, we ended up in a 50+ year old home in downtown Cary in recent years, with an eye towards an active early retirement. I’m so much happier being close to stuff here than being out in West Cary where we used to live when I had an RTP job to worry about.

Yeah, I try to avoid the outside the beltline area around Midtown at all cost. Hate the traffic on 6 Forks, and also Glenwood around Crabtree and Wake Forest Rd/Falls of Neuse. That said, I’d consider the ITB area near there, such as around Anderson Dr (especially if Raleigh would ever get the Crabtree Creek greenway open and functional end to end).

If money were also not a restriction, I'd end up in one of the DTR high rises. I'm a sucker for a sweeping view.
