Sneezecake, I know what you mean. I think the realtors on the board have mentioned before that swimming pools aren't very popular in the Triangle. I wonder why!

I am told that a pool is actually a negative with most sales around here. People would rather use a community pool and not be bothered with the maintenance. There are many professionals in this area and they may be on the road a lot. No time for maintenance.

I am told that a pool will most likely be a negative ROI.

How is the crime in this area? I know parts of Durham are bad and some are good. Has anyone had problems in this area with crime (home invasions, muggings, etc)?

Thanks!

This area of Durham is one of the most popular. It is probably the safest area in all of Durham. It is a GREAT place to live.

Default Woodcroft

As far as crime, I have seen two cars broken in since I moved here 2 years ago. They were both in the apartments that border Woodcroft and had rims and all the things that would attract a "car breaker inner" (). I looked at satellite images and searched Woodcroft and didn't see one house with a pool. Besides that would take up a lot of yard and with all the mature trees you would spend you days skimming leaves and/or pine needles. I would think you could hurt your resale and most definatly not get even half of the money you put into it.

Default Woodcroft

I am looking at a home on Fortunes Ridge Drive and was wondering if anyone knows if this is a safe area to live. I would also like to know if anyone knows what is being built over by the entrance to Woodlake.

Thanks!

Mary G.

From what I've seen (pictures and husband/son driving through Woodcroft a few weeks ago), I'd move there in a heartbeat. The only BUT for us are the Durham schools. NOT knocking DPS--just more comfortable so far with what research is turning up with regard to Chapel Hill/Carrboro schools and certain Orange County schools (relative to our current school district in MA).

--on the high school level--I think the elementary schools are all very good.

NCHomeSomeday, you've been holding out on us! You should post some of those photos your husband took from his trip.

Mary, Durham's police department has a crime map on their website that you should be able to check & see what you think of the crime in that area. Unfortunately, I'm having trouble with it today, but maybe that's just me. I know there was a break-in in that area last year, so you'll have to determine how comfortable you are with that. I think it's a fairly safe area. Lots of people walking their dogs and kids riding their bikes and such.

I posted a lot of photos and other information about Woodcroft in the following thread.

As for the construction on Fayetteville Road, I'm not sure what's happening over there. I know someone who is a little better about researching developments around town, so I've asked him to look into it. If I find out something I'll post it here.

::sigh::

I give the camera up for two days--forfeiting a LOT of great pictures of the South Jersey shore w/ my other two kids, so hubby and son can have the camera and take pictures of Hillsborough, CH and Durham. They never made it to Hillsborough. They got lots of pictures in Chapel Hill and Durham---don't have photobucket or flickr but I can tell you what they have:

football stadiums and basketball arenas. Lots of lots of pictures. We have son standing center court at Cameron, all the NCAA banners and flags and so on. LOTS of photos of Duke, UNC campuses (none of NCSU and I wanted to see that campus).

NONE of houses, neighborhoods or developments.

Men! Need I offer any other explanation?

Well, it's clear what their priorities are! Here's hoping you can make it down next weekend so you can check things out for yourself.

Looks like we finally have an answer! It will be an apartment complex for seniors called Alta Walk. Here's a snip from the press release:
Quote:
The project will include two, three-story buildings with elevators and a one-story building, plus 14 cottages. A 14,000 square foot leasing/activity center will provide ancillary services such as planned activities, meals, transportation, educational and athletic classes, and other services.
Here's the PDF of the full press release: http://www.sraco.com/assets/files/Alta%20Walk.pdf

Many thanks to BullCityRising for helping me with this!
