Sadly, trixie's situation is evidently 'unusual'. https://www.city-data.com/forum/unem...l#post57745374

The house hasn't passed the stimulus bill yet, have they? It will be months before anyone sees any monies from the stimulus bill.

Trixie, it sounds like you are in desperate need for help. Contact Oak City Cares - they can either help you or put you in touch with those that can.

The president signed the bill last Friday (3/27). They said its suppose to be deposited within 3 weeks of that date if they have your direct deposit info from 2018 or 2019 tax returns so we'll see.

Or if they have your direct deposit info from your monthly social security or SSDI payments.

If they have no direct deposit info, checks will be mailed to your home address. However, The IRS says they are in the process of setting up a web portal that people can use to submit their direct deposit info to IRS if IRS doesn't already have it. Or if it's changed. I'm thinking that could take months.

And before you start spending that money, remember that there are income limitations that can decrease or eliminate you from the payment.

But for many of us that are getting these checks it should be all about putting that money in the hands of people that are:

1) working their butts off to provide us food. Thanks to so many out there we still have options from McD's to great restaurants for takeouts. Life in this new normal is miserable enough without having the luxury of ordering a comfort meal now and then. TIP TIP TIP 50%-100%
This is nice and fine and I commend you for tipping more during this time, but let's not forget, you are tipping people who are still working. You are actually helping to improve their situation from what it was prior to the virus, AND THAT'S AWESOME!! Really, but the people who need help the most now are those who are no longer working. The ones who cannot benefit from the generosity of bigger tips. Until those people are able to start collecting unemployment or find another source of income, they are the ones in serious need.

Your second suggestion is fantastic.

Places like restaurants should compile a list of GoFundMe's or something similar for their "furloughed" employees. I would happily "tip" the servers and bartenders that we normally see every week.

Apparently the FL Unemployment site requires you to be on Internet Explorer to access it correctly. IE has less than a 10% market share as of 2019......

I guess it could be worse, at least they didn't require Netscape 3.0
Just when you thought Florida couldn't get any more insane. As if COVID19 isn't a bad enough virus spreading to humans; now they are trying to get everyone filing for unemployment to load their PC up with virus as well.

I got the heartbreaking news yesterday that YMCA of the Triangle is furloughing half of their full-time staff until further notice. Many incredibly passionate and already severely underpaid folks who generally have program responsibilities and work-hours that similarly haypointed managers/executives at a for-profit organization would be in shock over....now going at least a month without paychecks. Lots of friends and former colleagues fall into this category

Internet Explorer is a valid web browser and still used. The web browser itself does NOT contain a virus as your post suggests.

If MS removed "Internet" from the application name, its utilization would almost certainly drop to 0 (from the 4-5% it has now) for any use outside of connecting to some antiquated in house system; such as FL's unemployment system.
