FYI, one scientist is suggesting that properly chlorinated water in swimming pools does NOT present a problem. He does say that indoor pools may be more problematic in term of transmitting there airborne virus and for both outdoor and indoor pools, there is still the risk of transmission from surfaces, such as pool ladders, deck chairs, etc., as well as proximity to others. https://www.swimmingworldmagazine.co...-to-the-water/
Our HOA (in West Cary) is planning to open the pool next weekend. They are taking some precautions but most of it sounds very lite. Would you feel comfortable going to a Community Pool with young kids?
Our HOA's management company strongly advised that our HOA pool have a cleaning crew (above and beyond what lifeguards do) and hire someone to ensure social distancing is adhered too.
Personally, I think there should be a round one opening for pools to older individuals (18 or 21 or ??? and older) as children exhibit poor social distancing etiquette....at least in our neighborhood. Swimming only.

Yeah, I can imagine kids that jump into the pool 4 feet away from adults just hanging out while the other 95% of the pool is empty aren’t going to stay 6 plus feet away from people!

It would be the boomers and older that should think twice about the pool. Kids? Have at it. Especially if the pool is chlorinated.
I'm sure someone will have a contrary opinion to this, and that's totally fine -- but the combination of heat/sunlight and the open air environment makes a neighborhood pool outing seem low-risk. Something like the Y or one of those monster crowd-mobbed pools at Lifetime Fitness-- maybe not so much. But a neighborhood pool where everyone in the community has pretty much been sequestered for the last two months? I think going to the grocery store is probably riskier. Recirculated air and prolonged close personal contact really seems to be the greater threat (offices, planes, nursing homes, etc)
I think this is a horrible idea. We won’t go near the pool this summer even though we pay a lot to be a member of one. Two reasons - 1) social distancing - I don’t trust parents to keep their kids from getting close to mine or me personally. I also don’t trust our pool staff to kick anyone out who doesn’t follow it. 2) cleaning standards. Ours sent an email and said basically we are cleaning but can’t guarantee it’s clean to the extent that would prevent covid-19. That’s not good enough for me to risk it.
Pools can open at 50% capacity. Will see what the specific guidance is in the order.
