If your daughter did not test positive for COVID you do not need a test to get back in.

In fact, when my daughter was exposed on the second day of school, she needed to show proof of vaccine or a positive COVID test from the last 3 months to get back in.

WCPSS guidance states:

You may return if you have a confirmed diagnosis other than COVID-19 (like a stomach virus, ear infection, etc.) from a healthcare professional to explain the COVID-19-like symptoms AND

It has been at least 24 hours since you had a fever (without the use of fever reducing medicine) AND
You have felt well for 24 hours. The health care provider is not required to detail the specifics of the alternate diagnosis

All your doctor has to do is verify she has a stomach virus or a cold.

Ya we were re-reading that latest guidance at the dinner table last night and just shaking our heads (not at it, but in terms of how it is seemingly being applied in this case). My wife is pissed she even called the doc for a telemedicine call now.

Maybe it #1. Her doc wouldn't confirm a diagnosis of anything else, as number #2 is true on both accounts.

If it makes you feel any better, having to get a PCR test because of Covid symptoms is pretty typical in my experience. My daughter had to do the same a couple months ago because her doctor couldn’t confirm another diagnosis without ruling out Covid. Lots of her friends and classmates have had to do the same. We’re in another district, but the policy is similar. Actually, Wake’s seems to be a little more flexible and clearly defined.

Ya we just feel like we sorta sabotaged ourselves. No real beef with the policy because if it keeps the kids in school (en masse) that is what I think most people want (as we do)

It's one of those things that sounds like a great idea until you have to do it. Hopefully you'll get the results back soon though. My daughter's came back the next morning because it went through the hospital lab (UNC clinic), but I know others who went to places like Walgreens had to wait several days.

LOL exactly.

We went through her doc at Duke. I'm expecting it back today, but who knows.

I just read the lede and left as quick as I could. How is this even news?

It could have simply read; Water is wet. Gravity, taxes and A/C are strong and N95s are still the best mask (and I say this as someone who wears a cloth mask with KN95 inserts in it.)

It's just insane.

That all being said, it was about a year ago or so that the director of the CDC said that "if everyone just masked for two weeks we could get Covid under control". I'm pretty sure he wasn't referring to fit-tested N95's.

Time to unmask the kids at school. I never took a side on that until recently.

LOL they went and changed the headline.

The headline WAS: "Studies are emerging that cloth masks are not effective in preventing the spread of COVID."

I just can't anymore.
