I've actually never been to the one in Wilson's Mills. I grew up going to the one on 301, and still do when I want the best quality eastern NC BBQ. I'm sure that the Wilson's Mills location is acceptable, but the original one has it down to a science.

I don't know why there any differences in the que at various WS locations. A couple of years ago, I was tasked with serving bbq sandwiches at an event of about 100 people. I investigated several providers of bulk bbq including WS. At WS, I was told that I would need to pick up the order at the mother store in south Smithfield in order to make the logistics work (time wise). The store manager in Wilson Mills said he received all his que from Smithfield.

So I concluded that no WS location cooks its que on-site; it all comes from one location in Smithfield. Same for SCNB.
