We are considering moving to an Epcon Community in the Raleigh area. We currently live in Cary and enjoy watching and hearing the birds in our backyard. Do birds visit Courtyards at an Epcon Community? From what I have seen so far, it doesn't appear that there are many trees left standing when an Epcon community is readied for building. Looking for thoughts from those who currently live in an Epcon Community. Thanks!

I think most of them will have a tree buffer around the subdivision.

You might do well to select a perimeter home/lot that backs to the buffer, rather than an inside lot.

And as I ALWAYS remind people: don't go near a model home until you have your own realtor. SERIOUSLY. The builder's salesperson isn't there to help YOU.

Epcon is brutal on that point.

20 lbs of seed at Wal-Mart for $10.97 and a couple squirrel-proof feeders will bring birds to any location, I feel.

Look for Pennington Classic.

Half of that bag will end up on the ground (and then sprout), as the birds toss out all of the millet. I find it is much better to get the No-Waste versions. It is more expensive to purchase, but lasts much longer and you don't have shells/waste all over the place.

Not related to this housing development, but if you have birdfeeders on your property, please take special care right now due to Salmonella outbreak spread by feeders:

I removed our feeder and won't be putting it back up until mid-April. I decided to throw it out and put up a new one when the time comes, but that's just because I don't feel like messing with bleach and my old feeder was pretty beaten up.

I took down my feeders and dumped the seed in the trash. I'll disinfect them with bleach solution and put out mid-April.
