I'm moving out from my Apex house to an other state. I'm asked to empty the house. How to get rid of them? Thanks!

Do you want to donate or sell? Donating would be easier...

Donate:

Trosa
Habitat/Restore

Sell:

Garage Sale
Facebook Marketplace
Nextdoor

Anything left over, put it up for free on facebook/nextdoor/craigslist.

Anything left after that, goes in a dumpster or pay a junk hauler.

If I donate, will they come by to take them?

I believe both Trosa and Habitat will send a truck. Chances are they won't take everything though.

https://www.trosainc.org/donate-goods
https://www.trianglerestores.org/donate

Looks like at least for Restore you'll have to have everything on the ground floor.

TROSA will take a lot. I picked up a piano this winter in a house, and if my clients hadn't wanted it, TROSA would have come and taken it. In Wake Forest.
TROSA has movers, so moving stuff isn't out of their realm.

Just don't wait until the last minute. A lot of these organizations (particularly TROSA) are booked up weeks or months in advance.

The only other option is to pay junk haulers to take it to be donated or disposed of. (services like 1-800-gotjunk, College Hunks, etc. It's not cheap though.)

I'm pretty sure the D.A.V.. (Disabled American Veterans) Will come and pick up nearly any furniture that is clean and usable.

I don't think that the DAV has pickup in the Triangle.

(In no particular order) Try TROSA, Salvation Army, Durham Rescue Mission, Raleigh Rescue Mission and/or Restore. All are non-profits that are financially ethical and responsible with their funds.

As an ex-auditor who specialized in non-profits, please seriously consider not using Goodwill of Central NC (aka GCF) for donations or purchases. The percentage of income from donations that goes directly to their mission and services is far less than what they spend on salaries, marketing and administrative expenses. It's shameful. (Note that Goodwill operates much like a franchise; each area is separate managed. My comments apply ONLY to GW of Central NC. I'm not currebtly familiar with any others.)

THIS!!!
PLEASE AVOID GOODWILL FOR DONATIONS!

Even if you are giving small things to thrift stores, there are plenty of non-Goodwill ones around. I like Paws for Cause or ReTails, both which give to animal spay/neuter programs or other assistance. They may or may not have pick-up for certain items, never tried.
