When they tell me that my Social Security card is about to be deactivated, I ask them to do me a favor and also deactivate my wife's credit card.
Or I will say "I am so glad you called! Have you accepted <insert your favorite deity here> in your life? Let me tell you about Him". Somehow they don't want to talk to me any more after that...
If someone calls and tells you you're going to be arrested for <insert whatever bogus 'crime'> just say, "Awesome! Send the cute deputy, he can put on the cuffs! Byeeee."
Even the Police are getting in trouble, and this even got escalated to "Senior Investigation Officer Jason Brown."
"What should I do? I just got home from a kidney transplant. I cannot pay for it. Are you coming to repossess the kidney?
What will I do?"
The cool thing about the Fun With Scammers game is that I get to set all the rules and can say whatever inanity comes into my head.
The roofing calls? I tell them I would be glad to put a roof on for them and just need their home address. Hard to keep a straight face when they try three or four times to convince me they would put a roof on for me.
When someone calls and tells me they're (name) from (company), I just say, "No you're not." Then hang up. Of course, most of the time, I don't bother to answer unknown numbers.
You should watch some of those scammer videos on YouTube. It's unbelievable how many people fall for this nonsense. All over this country, and several other westernized countries.
Despite all of the warnings, despite this being widely known for so long, far too many people still fall for it.
I don't believe a word of this. Something _else_ is going on.
....and speaking of scams in Apex, I'm living here now. I was at the Apex Walmart yesterday looking for some odds and ends and there was a couple in the parking lot approaching everyone for money. The woman was in a wheel chair and was missing her left leg below the knee and some guy was wheeling her around to everyone. Weirdly they avoided me, but people often think I'm a cop for some reason, and I'm not. My favorite one is the pan handler on the 540 exit to 50 who wears jewelry and watches.
I know exactly who you are talking about! They were up in Cary at the Crossroads shopping area, near the Chipotle restaurant when they tried to beg me for money. That was about a month ago.
I did not give them anything.
