I'm sorry but this woman had 0 common sense. If you believe the Wake County Sheriff's Office is going to send you to 6 different Sheetz locations to get gift cards to pay a fine for missing a jury duty you never knew about, yep there's no helping you. You're going to get scammed. Big oof.
It’s a shame that Sheetz employees didn’t realize what was happening… I’ve heard of employees of stores putting a stop to these kinds of things. But yeah - it’s almost as if this woman has never watched the news, but no one ever thinks they will fall for something like this. This woman is way too young to believe that the police are watching you drive around getting gift cards. They must have got her name from a conspiracy theory website LOL.

I mean, you're not wrong! The woman doesn't seem elderly or has a cognitive impairment. It really is unfortunate for her, but how over the course of hours she never picked up that it was a scam is beyond me.
Wonder how she is bright enough to have accumulated 6000 dollars in a bank account, yet is not bright enough to call the sheriffs office, clerk of court, or a lawyer and check it out BEFORE sending any money anywhere.
Since everyone now knows who she is, I'll bet the next scam is:
"Hi, Our recent police report shows you were scammed, I represent a service that specifically works with the elderly that have been scammed. We not only get your money back, but we get even with the dastardly scammers...... Just deposit 250 dollars in the following account to cover our expenses. We also realize those naughty scammers may have cleaned out your readily available cash, so we have conveniently set up a way you can sign over your car, house or deliver your 60 inch UHDTV to our representatives as a good faith deposit for us catching the scammers and bringing them to justice."
She's a real estate broker...you'd think ferreting out scams would be high on her awareness list. I get that stress can make you do irrational things, but man, the alarm bells were ringing early, often, and loud on that one.
Y'all go ahead and pat yourselves on the back for being perfect.
She seems like a nice person who wanted to do the right thing but was so rattled that she didn't know which way was up and was taken for a sucker. Trusting people are not stupid; but they think the best in others, and that's what makes them vulnerable. The flip side is being jaded.
I've been on both sides, so I'm not one to talk. But if I get scammed, and then further humiliate myself to put my story out there to educate and protect others, and then get nothing but criticism and nastiness in return? I prefer to believe that is our community is better than that.
