Looking to move into a neighborhood with mature trees, where most of the homes were built 30+ years ago. Not really interested in the tear down, build new stuff, because it's too big and too complex for my tastes. I prefer the simpler exterior designs of the past (generally rectangular footprints, simple roof lines, etc.), but with completely new, up-to-date interior.
Would love to hear recommendations for design-build firms that are good at doing whole-home renovations like this. Probably a "to-the-studs" renovation with new plumbing, electrical, and everything else--depending on age.

Thanks in advance.
Many of such firms work in a limited area. Are you interested in any particularly location in the Triangle?
If so, naming a city might help you get better answers.

Thanks for the suggestion -- North Hills, Quail Hollow, North Ridge -- are my primary targets.
Check Clearcut Construction, Madison Renovations. Those are the ones I see recommended most often. Note that most of the houses in those neighborhoods were built in the 60s/70s. Not as familiar with North Ridge so it might be newer.
there are many available, but the best ones are extremely busy. Would they sit down with you for 30 minutes beforehand to see if you're a good fit for each other? Absolutely.
But we're not in the days - either inventory or contractor availability - where they'll come see several houses over several weeks with you to estimate a whole house reno on an individual house.
Your Realtor should be able to help with some of this - be it arranging/attending those meetings, helping to choose the right one, or ballparking with you a reno budget depending on the house.
I would also encourage you to attend the remodelers home show if they have it this year. You get to tour projects from remodeling firms in the area. We did this a prior to selecting a company and it really did help us make our decision.
