Any magical towns in NC to spend a weekend for Christmas with kids?
Locally we've done the Pullen Park Christmas Town, local farm Lights drive through, last years WRAL Nights of Lights.
Around NC we've done the Asheville/Biltmore.
We've done the Williamsburg/Busch Gardens Christmas Town in VA.

McAdenville (aka Christmas Town) intrigues us but is it worth the drive? Is there a lot of walking/shopping/dining worth staying for the weekend or is it a small town worth only a quick drive thru?

Any other towns in NC that go all out for Christmas?

This is not inexpensive, but I've heard it's so much fun for kids and adults alike: https://www.gsmr.com/events/polar-express/

This sounds fun, too: https://tweetsie.com/special-events/tweetsie-christmas

Old Salem is worth seeing at Christmastime. For the sweets if nothing else. Could combine with a drive to Blowing Rock.

We've done the Christmas train at NC Transportation museum which was pretty tame but always wanted to try the Polar Express since that's a real 1+ hour train ride. Only problem is, it's so far! Almost to Tennessee!

We've been to Tweetsie Amusement Park just not during Christmas

Old Salem sounds interesting, we haven't been to Winston Salem in ages. Is there a lot to do during the Holidays? Walkable town? I couldn't find much Holiday photos.

Touring Old Salem would only take a few hours, which is a reason I suggested perhaps pairing with a drive to Blowing Rock. But there is also a big Christmas lights thing at Tanglewood, near W-S. https://www.forsyth.cc/Parks/Tanglewood/fol/

thanks for the honest insight.....pairing it with Blowing Rock does sound interesting but is this the Blowing Rock that's 2 more hours west of WS?

It's not a getaway, but it's fun! The Christmas Balls in Sunset Hills
in Greensboro, NC.
