Are there any waterfalls in the Triangle area or running rivers to take the kids too?

You could head to the Eno River State Park and see some small waterfalls, but for anything significant you need to head to the mountains

No real waterfalls in the area, except for about 30 min after we get 2" of rain.

The closest I can think of are about 2.5 hours away, as you enter the mountains. Best time of year to go is in March/April when there's lots of water and not a whole lot of underbrush...by now its a jungle to get to alot of them.

Plenty of small rapids around for the kids to hop around in though. Two that come to mind are in Eno River State Parks off both Cole Mill Rd and off of Pleasant Green Rd, and on New Hope Creek in Duke Forest off of Whitfield Rd.

Well, I don't know that it would be classified as a real waterfall... but I love the old Lassiter Mill in Raleigh (not far from North Hills). It's in a small park in the middle of a residential area. Bits of the old mill are there, but it's mainly just a peaceful spot with the lovely sounds of water falling (Crabtree Creek, I think).
