I'm by no means condoning for vigilantiism or suggesting giving the guy a medal. But I have a hard time advocating "making an example" out of the guy either.
When I say "example" I am just hoping that they will do "something". I'm not asking for him to spend many years in prison. I just think that if they let him go with a slap on the hand that this will send the wrong message to other like minded people.

Agree with this to a certain extent. So many perps out there with long rap sheets getting a slap on the wrist. Then get out to commit more crimes. This is happening more and more in NY with their bail reform law.
On the flip side any logical gun owner knows you can't just chase a guy and start shooting, especially when he/she is retreating. These are the same folks who own slugs for their shotgun for home defense. Could care less if the slug exits their house into their neighbors. Both are in the wrong in this situation. Unfortunately we have some idiotic gun owners as well as repeat criminals who continually get a slap in the wrist.

I don't have too much of a problem making an example of this guy. You shouldn't be able to execute the death sentence on someone by shooting them for going through your car or trying to steal it either one. Since when is that a capital offense?
Police say Ye shot at 25-year-old Larry Clinding Jr. as he was running away.
Quote:
According to court paperwork, Clinding has a long history of breaking into cars – including eight arrests and multiple convictions. Freeman says her office is looking into whether or not he will be charged in this case after he is released from the hospital.
Hopefully he gets charged. Something needs to be done here as I have little sympathy for the robber.
Cary PD needs to step it up. Their basic philosophy seems to be "we can't do anything about (fill in the blank)". This isn't the murder capital of the world, but it is a town of 160K people and growing and you can't just the little things go (like B&E of cars in the same neighborhoods over and over, the drag racing that goes on late at night). They need to stop acting like they're busy doing other things.
