There is some kind of Durham Symphony group that meets on Tuesday nights at the Durham Arts Council downstairs; I don't know the exact name of it, but they definitely have strings! Ah wait, here it is--the Durham Symphony Check the Durham Arts Council, through whom most Durham groups are somehow affiliated: 560-2787.
I'm a somewhat-lapsed violin and viola player who would like to start playing again more regularly. Are there any community orchestras around, preferably near Durham? I used to play quite a bit, but then I had kids. I'd love to find a group that I could audition for.
MiriL,
I ran across your post as I was searching for similar opportunities to start playing more regularly myself. I realize it's been quite a while since your post - but did you ever connect with any of the groups from links people suggested - like the Chapel Hill Philharmonia?

Elisabeth, if you're interested in the Really Terrible Orchestra of the Triangle, they're having their winter concert tomorrow (Wednesday) at Duke. RTOOT Home
I think they're going to have auditions in January. Just send them an e-mail for more info.
