We are on county schools here. It's doubtful you'd find a TH for your budget in Cary, and definitely not a SFH.

If you are not tied to the Charlotte area, there is not reason to be looking in the Raleigh area for less expensive housing, because you will not find it. The suggestion of the Triad is a good one.

I agree with this and would add Leesville to list, both good areas with lots of nice townhomes. As others have said, we have a county based system, if your child is not an academic powerhouse there is a definite advantage to being in a good school but not the pressure cooker schools like in Cary for example.

Can anyone give me an idea about the crime averages in the New Hope Crossing area. Moving there soon and just wanted to get solid info from anyone that knows.

Is it a nice neighborhood?

"Nice" and "safe" are all relative depending upon what you are used to. That area, especially around Trawick, Capital and New Bern, is higher crime and definitely seems to have it's share of shootings/murders It's an area that I will no longer go to.
