Hi! I'm a single mom, moving to NC. I have been scoping the Raleigh area which I really like. I recently starting looking for affordable housing for 1 income famy n the surrounding area but completely loss. Can someone recommend a nice area to raise my teenage daughter safe, low crime, suburban neighborhood of Raleigh?

What kind of housing are you looking for? Whats your housing budget? When you say "Raleigh area" what do you mean exactly? Where will your job be located? Without answers to those questions its almost impossible to give you an answer. There is precious little "affordable housing" for many people in the Triangle area, unless you're willing and able to live well away from the city.

You should probably search the Raleigh-Durham board for previous posts asking a similar question, and ask the mods to move your post to that board.

The job I applied for is virtual housed put of Charlotte, my price range is between $250 - $350k based on area that is. I'm looking for a single family dwelling space that is community based. There are so many surrounding areas in Raleigh is hard to choose. My preference is southeast of the city.

its going to be extremely difficult to find a single family house in the type of neighborhood you're looking for unless you look 30 minutes or more outside Raliegh...maybe Johnston County?

I was scoping Wake County. Is that a good county to raise a family?

Yes and no. Most of it is a great place to raise a family, but some parts aren't. Your budget will be a challenge. There are a few houses in Garner in your price range, so that may be a possibilty. Schools aren't that great there, however.

Ekkkkke, and schooling is important. Any other areas around the Raleigh area you would suggest?

Not with your budget. You might want to look at the Greensboro/Winstin-Salem area instead.

You will have better luck looking at townhouses. There are some in Garner in your price range, but the Garner high school is only rated a 3 out of 10. Also look at Clayton and Fuquay-Varina. The Fuquay high school is rated 7 out of 10. Look for older houses like these:

Your desire for affordable housing in close-in Raleigh is a bit unrealistic, given how much publicity the area gets as a great place to raise a family. The desire for good schools drives up prices, particularly in Cary which has the best rated high schools.

The Triad (Winston-Salem and Greensboro) and even Charlotte have slightly more affordable houses.
