It's pretty lame that they allowed the developer to just close that road wothiu some sort of plan to be hitting major work milestones each day. So far it seems like there is little urgency to actually do work and they could have held multiple things to do at once.
This section of Hwy 64 is an absolute nightmare. Possibly the worst designed stretch of highway I've ever driven. Hopefully it was shut down for safety measures. There are too many direct access points to the highway.

There is nothing wrong with the highway just the unmanaged development on it

If memory serves it's only temporary to widen Richardson Road to four lanes from 64 to Core Banks.

I disagree. Traffic from Jenks Rd attempting to get to eastbound US 64 is an absolute nightmare. Near accident waiting to happen everyday.
Other states build feeder/frontage roads to avoid this problem. Some states like Texas even build the frontage road BEFORE the development occurs - what a novel concept. NCDOT has never heard of such a thing as preparedness.
Hwy 64 needs safety improvements immediately. I've already been rear ended there once and now I see why Apex police sit out there all the time. The Hwy 751/64 interchange needs an exit ramp because everyone drives on the shoulder to make a right turn onto 751 and traffic routinely backs up for over a mile. Growth in both Apex and especially Pittsboro have made it a necessity.
a co-worker told me they are going to put a light in, and open lefts onto 64.
Terrible idea, hopefully it doesn't come to fruition.
Hwy 64 is the only alternative to I-40. It should be upgraded to interstate standards to keep the traffic safely flowing. The ink has already dried on the Chatham County development and we know more traffic is coming no matter what.

This plan optimizes the road for long-distance through traffic and disadvantages local drivers. NCDOT refuses to understand the population growth of Wake County and sticks to a US64 plan made years ago.
I suggest they refocus on the world as it is. The plan for a US64-NC49 Corridor should be revised to originate at the US64-NC751 intersection. East of that point US64 is now urban in nature.
