Get a second opinion.

We once got told a line of bull by a dentist about periodontic work.

A second dentist found no such need. It's been 15 years now, and no need.

That’s what I said. I think it is the same thing. I brush twice a day and floss pretty regularly but this is crazy. We said if they say 90% of the American population they are making a killing off of this at $600 a piece. They have to be telling everyone they need it.

I just had a root canal today at Dr. Katherine Garrett's office. She was really gentle. She is right in my building so it was very convenient for me. I will be taking my vicotin tonight though, sad to say.

Hands down, Dr. David Waack (pronounced like the cooking pan, Wok) in Cary. Last year, I decided to have my childhood metal fillings replaced with non-mercury based white fillings in Los Angeles. The dentist messed up and I was forced to have a root canal. Then, after the root canal, I was eating a tortilla chip during Cinco de Mayo and cracked open that tooth. So, I had to get that puppy extracted (in preparation for an implant).

Dr. Waack, and his assistant, were magnificent. Professional. Straight-forward. No nonsense. And the facilities are very nice and upscale (but the price was terrific). They also understood my dental discount plan very well since I don't have dental insurance (yes, there is a BIG difference).

Anyway, I've had two follow-ups since because I also had a precautionary bone graft put in (in preparation for the implant). A lot of care is going into it. It shows. The next visit will be the mold taken, then the implant. Then I go see my general for the crown.

More information than you needed to know, I guess. But you can always PM me on the minor details too. I'm picky, especially now since the debacle back in L.A. So, as far as oral surgery goes, I'd go with David Waack:

Wish I could afford that kind of replacement dentistry.

Glad your budget allows it for you.

I have a couple of spots where teeth once went that can get aggravated when eating things like pretzels. My dentist's office does the implant work, but the cost is way out of reach.
