A little while ago I settled on Deerfield, but now I've learned of openings at Pinnacle Ridge and Lenox East. How would you rank these three complexes for 2 female grad students? Our highest concerns are safety and cleanliness. I have a very short window of opportunity to make my decision so advice asap would be much appreciated!

My experience is somewhat limited, but I'll offer what I know. I started out in Durham 8 yrs ago in the apartments right across the street from Deerfield. We loved living in that area (Deerfield was actually our 1st choice but was more expensive). It's a very quick trip to Duke, and we enjoyed having the Duke Forest trails nearby, as well as the American Village neighborhood for walking/biking through. As for safety, I always felt very, very safe around there. There were some car break-ins, but that happens basically everywhere. I just checked in with a colleague who lives in Deerfield, and she has had no problems with management or anything and enjoys living there. She loves that the bus stops right in front of there and she rides to Duke on Durham Transit.

We moved 5 yrs ago to the neighborhood behind Lenox, and it's also a very safe area with an equally easy trip into Duke. Also a few car break-ins in the apartment area, but again, that seems to happen all over. We have friends in the townhouse style apt at Lenox and they've lived there happily for a few years. There is less neighborhood to speak of, such that if you are a big biker or walker/jogger, you might enjoy Deerfield more for its accessibility to more neighborhood roads.

Sorry I can't speak to the actual apartments themselves, but as for area, I would rank them equally in safety and accessibility to Duke. I don't think you could go wrong choosing either. Oh, and there are plenty of actual deer at both!

Don't know anything about Pinnacle Ridge. Good luck with your decision!
